Three Questions about God
A nice story I found on the internet.
There was a young man who went overseas to study for quite a long time. When he returned, he asked his parents to find him a religious scholar or any expert who could answer his 3 Questions.
Finally, his parents were able to find a Muslim scholar.
Finally, his parents were able to find a Muslim scholar.
Young man: Who are you? Can you answer my questions?
Scholar: I am one of Allah's (God) creatures and God willing I will be able to answer your questions.
Young man: Are you sure? A lot of Professors and experts were not able to answer my questions.
Scholar: I will try my best, with the help of God.
Scholar: I will try my best, with the help of God.
Young Man: I have three questions:
1. Does God exist? If so, show me His shape.
2. What is fate?
3. If Devil was created from the fire, why at the end he will be thrown to hell that is also created from fire. It certainly will not hurt him at all, since Devil and hell were created from fire. Did God not think of it this far?
Suddenly, the Scholar slapped the young man's face very hard.
Young man (feeling pain): Why did you get angry at me?
Scholar: I am not angry. The slap is my answer to your three questions.
Young Man: I really don't understand.
Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?
Young Man: Of course, I felt the pain.
Scholar: So do you believe that pain exists?
Young Man: Yes.
Scholar: Show me the shape of the pain!
Young Man: I cannot.
Scholar: That is my first answer. All of us feel God's existence without being able to see His shape … Last night, did you dream that you will be slapped by me?
Young Man: No.
Scholar: Did you ever think that you will get a slap from me today?
Young Man: No.
Scholar: That is fate my second answer … My hand that I used to slap you, what is it created from?
Young Man: It is created from flesh.
Young Man: It is created from flesh.
Scholar: How about your face, what is it created from?
Young Man: Flesh.
Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?
Young Man: In pain.
Scholar: That’s it. This is my third answer. Even though Devil and also hell were created from fire, if God wants, hell will become a very painful place for Devil.
Allah said “If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you".

Trois Questions Concernant Dieu

No Te Quiero Sino Porque Te Quiero
Pablo Neruda (1904-1973)

I Do Not Love You Except Because I Love You
I Do Not Love You Except Because I Love You
I do not love you except because I love you;
I go from loving to not loving you,
From waiting to not waiting for you
My heart moves from cold to fire.
I love you only because it's you the one I love;
I hate you deeply, and hating you
Bend to you, and the measure of my changing love for you
Is that I do not see you but love you blindly.
Maybe January light will consume
My heart with its cruel
Ray, stealing my key to true calm.
In this part of the story I am the one who
Dies, the only one, and I will die of love because I love you,
Because I love you, Love, in fire and blood.

Quote of the Day
"All say: how hard it is that we have to die! A strange complaint to come from the mouth of people who have had to live".

The Fear of Life
Today, while I was leafing my old notebooks of the university, I found a note that affected me. I remember that the professor told us that the real fear is not the fear of death but the fear of life. He asked us to trace this reflection on the linguistic level. In French, we can find the meaning of the word “vie” (life) in many words which can have a pejorative signification.
The Latin verb “vivere” (to live), for example, from which derives the word “vipera” (viper) which means “a living ribbon”. The word “vipère” in French and “viper” in English refer both to the venomous snake and to a spiteful or a treacherous person. The same thing with the French adjective “vif” or “vivacious” in English, with the meaning of “to act with a kind of brutality, to be aggressive”.
Also the word “animosité” or “animosity” meaning ill will and hostility, and the word “animal” (living, animated) with the meaning of inhuman, savage or violent, both of them are derived from the Latin word “anima” (soul). We can also see this in Arabic for the words « حية » (snake, viper) and « حيوان » (animal) deriving from the verb « حيى » (to live).
I don’t know if this linguistic phenomenon is a coincidence but what is sure is that this fear of life, not of death, is so real. We all know that death is inevitable; she represents the unknown, so why should we be afraid of what we don’t know? However, we always have this apprehension towards what we know: life. It is mainly this feeling of uncertainty, the fear of change, the lack of self-confidence, what the others think of us.
We live in an extremely materialistic and conformist society, which has lost all its values and principles. It is pushing us to comparison and concurrence, to erase all what makes us unique and wants us to be similar and look and think like each others to better control us.
Actually, it is to refuse living our life as we should live it with its simplicity and singularity, to not like ourselves and to project what we hide inside on our environment: we are afraid of those who are different, we criticise, we judge, we deny the other’s right to create and to express himself, we become negative, depressed and aggressive. The real fear is to live the life that we do not want to live.
Happy people are those who know the true meaning of the word “satisfaction”. To be satisfied of what we are rather than to try to look like someone else or like everybody, to be satisfied of what we have rather than always wanting what we don’t have, to enjoy the little pleasures of everyday life rather than to seek for the eternal happiness.
